The final of the 2015 Cricket World Cup took place on 29 March 2015 between Australia and New Zealand, and Australia won by 7 wickets for a fifth World Cup triumph.
Nepal Earthquake
A massive earthquake killed thousands in Nepal and India on April 25th. The massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal with devastating force less than 50 miles from the capital, Kathmandu causing tremors in northern India as well.
Refugee Crisis
The rise of ISIS, the Syrian civil war, and instability in Afghanistan, the Middle East and elsewhere drove record numbers of people to leave their homes and try to make the crossing to Europe. Those who reached Greece were in the European Union, but their journeys often didn’t end there. They tried to get further north, perhaps to Germany, where opportunities and welcome are seen as greater.
Blue Jays beat Rangers
The Blue Jays are heading to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 1993, and it was one of the biggest home runs in franchise history that got them there.
Myanmar’s Memorable Vote
History has been made in Burma as Aung San Suu Kyi’s pro-democracy opposition party was confirmed as the winner of historic elections on November 08, 2015. Ms Suu Kyi will be able to name the next president and form the new government. The electoral triumph was declared official exactly five years after the world’s most famous political prisoner was released from house arrest for a third and final time.
World Athletics Championships
The fifteenth World Championships in Athletics were held from August 22 to August 30, 2015 in Beijing, China. 43 nations won medals. The United States won 18 medals, six gold, six silver and six bronze, which was the highest tally. Host nation China, finished 11th on the medals table, while Russia, the overall winner and host in 2013, finished ninth.
Indigenous Festival
Indigenous festival was celebrated on October 11, 2015 at Randall Islands. Indigenous Peoples Day Native American Festival is a festival/Powwow attracting over 500 Native American artists, educators, singers, dancers and performing groups from across the Americas. Other highlights of the event include authentic cuisine: buffalo burgers, venison stew, corn soup and Indian Tacos. Visitors can interact with representatives from various tribal Nations.
Nobel Prize
The Nobel prize was announced on October 9, 2015 and was awarded on December 10, 2015.
Paris Under Attack
A series of coordinated terrorist attacks occurred in Paris on November 13, 2015. Almost 130 people were killed in the attack.
COP 21- Paris Climate Conference
The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP 21 was held in Paris, France, from 30 November to 12 December 2015. It was the 21st yearly session of the Conference of the Parties (COP). COP 21, also known as the 2015 Paris Climate Conference, will, for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations, aim to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.
Mother Teresa to be made Saint
Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the Nobel laureate who dedicated her life to helping the poorest of the poor, will be made a saint of the Roman Catholic Church in September 2016, an Italian Catholic newspaper reported on Thursday, December 18, 2015.
